5 Ways Neurofeedback Can Help Busy Moms

How Neurofeedback Can Help Busy Moms

You’re the unsung hero of the family.

The one that tirelessly makes sure everything gets done and everyone is where they need to be.

You’re the CEO of the household – managing people, delegating tasks, and keeping everyone on schedule.

But you probably find yourself at the bottom of your priority list.

Many moms ask us how neurofeedback can help their kids. We believe neurofeedback works best when the whole family does it. Today, we’re going to talk about how neurofeedback can help busy moms reduce stress, improve sleep, and prioritize self-care.

What Is Neurofeedback?

If you’re new to neurofeedback, it’s a type of brain training that can help your brain work to find its most optimal state. Your brain is always learning, organizing, and self-regulating. Neurofeedback can help you tap into this ability more quickly by giving your brain information about itself. Once your brain has this information, it can make changes accordingly.

At Whole Family Neurofeedback we use NeurOptimal® neurofeedback because:

  • It can be done at home

  • It doesn’t require a medical diagnosis

  • You don’t need a practitioner

  • It’s so easy anyone can do it

Most people want to try neurofeedback to help with a specific goal or because they are struggling in a certain area of their life. Many moms come to us looking for help with their kids with ADHD to help with sleep, focus, and attention. But neurofeedback use in the family can start with you.

We strongly believe that neurofeedback is best utilized when the whole family does it. Many moms neglect themselves when they’re trying to take care of everyone else.

As a busy, working mom myself, I found neurofeedback during a time of chronic illness and stress. I tried everything – vitamins, supplements, meditation, yoga, acupuncture, functional medicine, diet, and psychotherapy. You name it, I tried it. I just felt like something was missing. I knew I needed something more comprehensive. Like many others, neurofeedback was the missing puzzle piece for me.

So when I talk to you about all the ways neurofeedback can help busy moms, just know that I’ve been there. It comes from a place of understanding because I went through it myself.

Let’s talk about five ways neurofeedback can help you as a busy mom, trying to do it all.

5 Ways Neurofeedback Can Help Busy Moms (Like You)

1.) Stress Management

It’s easy to feel stressed when you’re juggling household tasks, taking care of kids, extracurricular activities, homework, projects, and work. If you don’t take care of yourself that stress only builds until you reach a breaking point.

You probably find it hard to set aside time for yourself or you feel guilty when you do.

Using neurofeedback gives you that dedicated time to sit down and focus on yourself. With NeurOptimal® you can do one neurofeedback session in just 33 minutes. The session itself is relaxing as you sit there and listen to music or watch a movie.

Neurofeedback helps your brain organize itself and tap into the brain’s natural instinct towards resilience and flexibility. This can help with stress management.

Being proactive about managing your stress will help your whole family destress. There is a reason there’s a saying “When Mama’s not happy, nobody’s happy.”

You’re the leader of the pack and how you feel trickles down to everyone.

Taking care of yourself and reducing your stress level can help you:

  • Be more patient with your kids

  • Be more “present” and engaged

  • Be more efficient at home and work

  • Reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol, in your brain

  • Reduce any physical symptoms of stress such as headaches, stomach aches, heartburn or panic attacks 1

2.) Improved Sleep

I’m sure there aren’t many moms out there who wouldn’t want a better night’s sleep. When you become a mom sleep is the first thing that changes and for some, it doesn’t get much better. You may have kids that wake up all hours of the night – for years. You may be a light sleeper now or you’re just so busy that you’re staying up later and waking up earlier.

If you can’t remember the last time you had a good night’s sleep, NeurOptimal® neurofeedback might help. If you talk to most people who use NeurOptimal®, improvement in sleep is something almost everyone experiences. That’s because neurofeedback calms the mind and promotes relaxation which helps you reduce stress and improve sleep. Many people report waking up feeling rested and refreshed.

One of our clients, Brooke (a busy, working mom of 2 boys) reported improvements in her sleep and more clarity in her thoughts.

3.) Increased Focus and Clarity

Multitasking isn’t for the faint of heart. As a mom, you’re always multitasking or task-switching which can lead to doing things on “autopilot” and even being forgetful.

Many moms report feeling more focused and clear after using NeurOptimal®. Since neurofeedback helps the brain organize itself and move towards more efficient patterns, the more you train you’ll notice:

  • Being able to focus better

  • Having more clarity in your thoughts

  • Being able to see things from different perspectives

  • Being able to start that project you’ve been procrastinating on

  • Feeling more confident, calm, and certain

We just talked about how neurofeedback helped our client Brooke improve her sleep. She also reported increased motivation to do a project that she has been procrastinating on for over six months! After just 30 sessions she reported clarity in her thoughts and less stumbling over her words.

4.) Prioritizing Yourself

As a mom, prioritizing yourself is never a bad thing. If you don’t prioritize yourself now, you’ll only feel more burnt out as time goes on. Prioritizing yourself and your well-being is part of being a great role model for your kids. You want your kids to value their health and wellbeing and that starts with modeling it at home.

Many moms feel that doing neurofeedback gives them a greater sense of emotional well-being and increases mental and emotional resilience.

Many moms consider themselves the primary parent. One of our clients, Gabriella is a single mom of four kids and says that moms need neurofeedback just as much as kids.

Gabriella reports that using NeurOptimal® helps her approach stressful situations more calmly. She has realized that her reaction is just as important as anything else so being calm and resilient to handle stress has helped her entire family.

She says “As a mom, you carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Sometimes you deal with things that come to the surface but you can at least work through it. Neurofeedback calms down the nervous system so you’re not stuck in fight or flight mode.”

5.) Be a leader

For some, the concept of neurofeedback takes a little getting used to. Putting sensors on your scalp and having a machine give you “feedback” about your brain’s electrical activity might be something you’re unsure of. Hearing other people’s stories and getting all of your questions answered can help you learn more about it and feel more at ease.

Doing it yourself can help you understand how it works and help you get familiar and comfortable with the equipment. Once you use it, you’ll see it’s simply monitoring the electrical activity of your brain and bringing you back to the present moment when needed.

Once you’re familiar with it it’s so much easier to get your kids to do it. After you experience it, it’s easy to see that it’s a safe, non-invasive, effective way to help your family reach their goals.

Once your kids see that you’re doing it, they will be much more likely to want to try it as well.
