Codependency Therapy:

Codependency is more complex than simply valuing others opinions of yourself more than your own, and making personal sacrifices to please others. Codependency may be holding you back from healthy relationships, self-esteem, and fulfilling your destiny in this world. It’s perfectly fine to work hard to appease others and to take their opinion seriously, but if their opinion of you is becoming your reality, that’s not healthy. Midlife Challenges Counseling:

Did you know that women are more likely to go through midlife challenges earlier than men, often between the ages of 35 and 44? Mid-life challenges, sometimes referred to as a mid-life crisis, could be caused by aging, changes in appearance, menopause, career regrets, spousal relationships, and other challenges men and women experience in the middle of their life. Our therapists are here to help you embrace maturity and experience some of the best years of your life.

Mood Disorder Therapy:

Mood disorders are generally characterized as a series of drastic changes in mood that disrupt one’s life. There are three major states of mood disorders: depressive, manic, and bipolar. When your mood starts to have an impact on your social, educational, and work life, it’s time to ask for help as you may be suffering from a mood disorder. In addition to talk therapy, we offer psychological testing to help uncover the causes and solutions to your unique situation. In some cases, therapy alone is enough to treat a mood disorder – it depends on the individual. If you’re looking for a non-judgmental therapist to help you live a more emotionally stable life, please reach out to us.

self esteem counseling

Self-Esteem Counseling:

Self-esteem is the degree to which one feels confident, valuable, resilient, and worthy. People with low self-esteem often feel shame and self-doubt and spend lots of time criticizing themselves. Those with self-esteem issues may stop doing hobbies they once enjoyed. Feelings of anger, guilt, or sadness may prevent them from enjoying new activities. Some people may exhibit self-destructive behaviors such as abusing substances, neglecting hygiene, developing codependency tendencies, and more.

Others may bully and criticize others to compensate for their own insecurities. In addition, a fear of rejection can prevent people with low self-esteem from seeking positive relationships, which could lead to social isolation. Our therapists want to help you change the way you think, act, and speak about yourself. We want you to feel confident, resilient, and not afraid of being yourself around others. If you suffer from low self-esteem, please reach out to us.

Somatic Symptom Disorder Therapy:

In most cases, Somatic symptom disorder is found in adults ages 30 and up. Somatic symptom disorder involves a person having a significant focus on physical symptoms, such as pain, weakness, or shortness of breath, that results in major distress and/or problems functioning despite not having a known medical condition or cause. A person is not diagnosed with somatic symptom disorder solely because a medical condition can’t be identified as the cause of the physical symptoms one feels. When the person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related to the physical discomfort are excessive or out of proportion, that’s a strong indicator that the person may be experiencing somatic symptoms. It’s important to our therapists not to rush to conclusions, but to investigate and determine if someone is experiencing somatic symptoms or not.

Substance Abuse Counseling:

If you know you need help overcoming an addiction to drugs, it’s up to you to reach out and take the first bold step towards recovery. Your information is safe with us, so please don’t hesitate to schedule your first appointment online, or call us if you have questions. We’re here for you every step of the way.

Veterans Counseling:

Life as a member of the Armed Forces is drastically different than life as Civilian. Sometimes, the drastic change can create or trigger transition issues that cause anxiety, depression, guilt, regret, anger, stress, and other feelings active duty service members are trained to never succumb to. There are also physical changes that take place. Some service members may return home changed and are now faced with the challenges of finding employment and supporting their family. At Old Towne Counseling Services your service will never be taken for granted, and we are here to help you enjoy life as a civilian. If you’re a veteran in need of counseling and support, please reach out to us.

Trauma Therapy:

Trauma therapy is a type of mental health treatment that counselors use to help people overcome psychological trauma. A traumatic event is an event, or situation, that threatens a person’s body, sanity, or life. With trauma therapy, it’s important for you to know what you want to accomplish. Do you want to build awareness? Be at peace? Reclaim your personal power? Confront your abuser? What do you want to get out of this? At Old Towne Counseling Services, we want to help you accomplish your therapy goals. If you need trauma therapy, the best way to begin the healing process is by scheduling your first appointment with us. PTSD Therapy:

You may have PTSD if the issues you experience after exposure to a traumatic event continue for more than a month, cause significant problems in your ability to function in social environments and work settings, and negatively impacts the relationships you have with others. We want to teach you skills to address your symptoms, help you think positively about yourself and others, learn how to cope with symptoms if they return, and treat other challenges associated with trauma such as depression, anxiety, or misuse of drugs and alcohol. Our therapists are here to help you regain a sense of control over your thoughts, emotions, and life. Please reach out to us if you need help overcoming post-traumatic stress disorder.

Work/Life Balance Counseling:

When work and life are out of balance, problems can arise in your personal relationships, and in your physical and mental health. Signs that your work life is taking over your personal life include: bringing your work home, arguing with family about time spent working, canceling plans for work, dreaming about work, losing sleep over work, grinding your teeth while you sleep, having a short temper with family members, experiencing digestive issues, and getting tension headaches.
