Julia Merritt, Resident in Counseling
Julia is a Resident in Counseling with experience as a school counselor in the public school setting. Julia has always been interested in work that helps others and allows for building connections and genuine understanding.
She uses a person-centered and solution-focused approach in her counseling work, and uses techniques from modalities such as CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and DBT (dialectical behavior therapy).
Julia has worked with individuals on various mental health concerns, such as anxiety, ADHD, autism, and anger management. She is open to working with children, teenagers, and adults. She believes that everyone is capable of growth and learning more about their own mental health. She considers it a privilege to help clients in this important journey.
She obtained her Master’s degree in Counselor Education from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She has been passionate about mental health and psychology since she first took a course in psychology during high school, and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Virginia (UVA). Her experience includes counseling children and teenagers from a variety of backgrounds.

In her free time, Julia enjoys spending time with loved ones, reading books, and practicing yoga.
