SARAH PATTERSON, M ED.

Resident in Counseling

Sarah Patterson (she/her) is a current Resident in Counseling who specializes in working with
young children and their families. She is a graduate of VCU’s Counselor
Education M.Ed program, during which she studied family systems theory while providing
individual, small group and parent counseling to folks all across the Greater Richmond Area.

Sarah works with children as young as 4, and has a particular affinity for supporting
neurodivergent children and their families.

Sarah utilizes play-based interventions with her young clients to provide them with a development informed and productive counseling experience. She often integrates cognitive behavioral and/or dialectical behavioral techniques into her sessions when appropriate to promote children’s awareness of their thoughts, feelings & behaviors while supporting them in developing their own solutions. Her ultimate priority for her clients/families is to provide a safe, affirming space for them to process, learn and heal with her support.
