WILLIAM “BILL” BUTLER
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Independent Contractor
Bill graduated from the US Naval Academy and became a Navy helicopter pilot. After his honorable discharge, he received his Master’s in Social Work from Norfolk State University in 1979 and was licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in 1983.
William Butler graduated from the US Naval Academy and served in the United States Navy as a helicopter pilot. After his honorable discharge, he served as the Administrator of a substance abuse program in Virginia Beach for four years. He also received his master’s in social work from Norfolk State University in 1979 and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 1983.
Bill’s career in social work includes both clinical and managerial responsibilities. He worked as Executive Director of Catholic Family Services in Portsmouth, Virginia, and then as Chief of Services of the Navy Family Service Centers of Hampton Roads.
William “Bill” Butler has also served as a Clinical Manager of the behavioral health subcontract within TRICARE, Vice President of Provider Relations for Value Options, a national behavioral healthcare firm, and managed the children’s mental health clinic for the City of Virginia Beach CSB for ten years. Bill also worked in private clinical practice for 12 years.
After Bill retired, he was called back into a part time clinical position in Virginia Beach before he and his wife moved to Mechanicsville in 2013 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
At Old Towne Counseling Services, Bill works with couples, individual adults and older adolescents. Bill helps clients manage problems that can include depression, anxiety, life transition and military lifestyle issues, and many others.
His focus is on the solution to the problem, which means goal-setting and re-orienting his client’s life direction. Afterwards, clients’ problems can be left behind as they become enthusiastic about positive changes.
