DEBORAH LOREY SCIAN
Who Am I?
Hello! I am Debbie Scian ( See-en, she/her). I am in the final stage of pre-license supervision for my License in Clinical Social Work, Certification Substance Abuse Counseling and am a Board Certified Patient Advocate. I love working with children, teens, and adults. I love working with individuals with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. I enjoy providing support to individuals through life transitions, personal development, substance misuse and recovery as well as other challenging personal or family situations. I am particularly passionate about working with First Responders, disaster relief/recovery workers, medical professionals and others who often experience challenging emotions or trauma in their daily work. Much of my previous experience comes from wilderness therapy, animal assisted therapy, somatic experience and experiential education, so creative expression or approaches are in the forefront of my practice.
I love working with:
-
Substance misuse, abuse, recovery and sober living skills for all ages and situations.
-
Adults and children as they navigate their school, family, and social lives
-
Young adults as they explore who they are and who they are becoming
-
Individuals in the LGBTQIA2S+ community
-
Individuals with disabilities and change of abilities
-
Individuals with ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, grief and trauma recovery.
Some of my favorite approaches include:
More than anything, I strive to meet my clients where they are, and support them how they want and need to be supported. I do this by being a client-centered and strength-based therapist who will support you in your journey. I like to pull from different approaches in order to foster change and promote growth including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Complex Family Systems and multicultural, spiritual or interdisciplinary collaborations. In different stages of therapy, and particularly with younger clients or families I often integrate games, challenges, homework activities, music, play and art therapy techniques into our sessions. Creating a safe affirming space with trusted rapport also helps us work together on complex issues, trauma and other deeply personal aspects of therapy. I offer in-person and telehealth options to best facilitate your access and consistent progress in therapy.
