Dabney is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Virginia and is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). She received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Virginia Tech and her Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dabney Belcastro has a dynamic range of experience working with clients of all ages in outpatient, inpatient, and community-based mental health settings. Her training in Somatic Experiencing, developed by Dr. Peter Levine, is a body-oriented approach to resolving traumatic life experiences and disruptive physiological patterns and informs every element of her work.
Dabney’s passion is providing trauma-informed care and she has a special interest in working with young adults (ages 18-40), moms, and teenagers dealing with life transitions, anxiety, relationship issues, motherhood stress and parenting challenges, mood instability, and trauma. Additionally Dabney’s SEP certificate offers specialized treatment for psychosomatic complaints, complex trauma, and other disruptive nervous system patterns.
Therapy with Dabney is relational, emotion focused, and attachment-based. She draws heavily on mindfulness, Humanism, Gestalt, and body-oriented psychotherapies. Dabney focuses on developing a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients where mutually identified goals guide movement towards resilience and healing. She respects that each client’s journey is their own and humbly acknowledges her role as a supportive guide in that journey.
